 Matthew 6:7 (KJV)
Matthew 6:7 (KJV)
“But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.”
Jesus warns His followers not to pray the way pagans or unbelievers do—by repeating empty phrases or long, meaningless words, thinking that the length or volume of their prayer makes it more powerful. The key phrase “vain repetitions” means empty, mechanical, or insincere words—prayers that come from the mouth but not the heart. Jesus emphasizes that God values sincerity over verbosity. Prayer should be heartfelt, humble, and rooted in faith, not performance or ritual.
May my prayer be aimed to know You more
To be in awe and wonder, to love and adore
Not filled with vain words or man’s intelligence
But with grateful tears and a heart of repentance
Father,
Help me pray to know Your more. To realize my total dependence on Your provision and my Christ’s sufficiency. Help me to sing to Jesus everyday. Thank you for Your grace. Amen.
